Babies do not have what we know as the Patella when they are first born, but they do have kneecaps, they are just cartilage. They turn to bone at about 4 months (I looked that part up). Also, babies have 300 bones, but adults only have 206 bones. The babies extra bones are mostly cartilage, which grow and slowly harden into bone and some bones fuse together, like the skull.
