Today was Armando's 10th birthday party, and like the picture I posted of Booz in Morelia, Armando had his face smashed into his cake as well. If you have never had this experience, I would like to personally offer to shove your face in a cake, since it appears to be great fun... and not only for those doing the pushing... =)
This is Gabriel. Gabriel has this habit. This habit involves food. It involves hiding, stuffing, throwing, and dropping food. On the floor. All the time. Enjoying it. Oh. And convincing the other little boys they should do the same. Jenna. You are amazing. I would never have thought of making them eat it anyway. That's right. I bet it's a lot worse the second time 'round. You are amazing. I want to be like you. When I grow up.
I am in love... with empanadas. These savory pastries are baked to a delicious golden-brown softness and filled with squash, meat, vegetables, cream cheese... you name it, it can be made with any filling. Every week the "empanada boys" (door-to-door salesman, seven to ten years of age, with the cunning ability to simply stand there holding out their wares until you are overcome with the absolute necessity of buying just a little sample) come 'round with their baskets of goodies, and for ten pesos you can bite into a slice of heaven. No truly... my life is almost complete with one of these in hand.
Today I finished the last one. Okay, who am I kidding? The last three. But then I had a realization. Today is Wednesday. "Empanada boys" may not be back until next week. I will let you know if anything catastrophic happens during the absence of my newest love.
Another P.S.: To keep me company through these lonely days, I found a website for empanadas... it's called "Solo Empanadas" (Only Empanadas) at www.soloempanadas.com.
I urge you to discover paradise with me.
Just do it.
And as we say in Mexico (or maybe just "as I say in Mexico"):
"Vida con empanadas... es bueno. Vida con dos empanadas... es brillante."
"Life with empanadas... is good. Life with two empanadas... is brilliant."

Stephany,
I am in agreement. Those little pastries are good. I think that sugar cream pie might be better, though!

My vote goes for the papas con carne asada from Momo's! :)
Alas... none of you have had the exact exhilerating experience I speak of... therefore I shall eschew your proclamations, and sadly recognize that some beings just are not on an equal plane when it comes to taste... =P
I really like sopapillas. I had 6 of them last night at Carlos O'Kelly's. Does that count for Mexican food?
Stephanie,
Greetings. We're Seth's folks. Our delight has been "doubled" as we now have two faithful bloggers from CVE. We are faithful blog checkers (2 to 3 times / day:)), so keep 'em comin'.
You've got to be related to Aaron Plattner. We are seeing blogging similarities. Must be a KS thing:).
Welcome Mark & Barb!
Oh dear... I'm a little scared of those "blogging similarities" being a faithful reader of his blog...!!! =)
mail me one and I'll try it! Or better than that....send one back with daddo!
sure thing... =)
Mmm...I don't think you can beat the carmelos from Lupitas!
