The Magdalena Rodeo

On our way back from our anniversary trip, I saw an announcement at a taqueria for a rodeo in Magdalena.  After talking about it and checking with other CVE folk, we ended up heading to the rodeo one Saturday afternoon with the Wulfs and several summer staff volunteers!
All excited for the rodeo to begin... waiting, waiting, waiting... hmmmm.
Oh wait.
This is Mexico!!!
The poster said it started at 3:00.  We got there at 4:00ish.  It started at 7:00ish... :)
Is that a... ? [you might be thinking]
Yes, you're right!  The rodeo was held in the baseball stadium.  They just poured in some extra dirt in front of the chutes... :)  We were hoping they cleaned up the, ahem, excess before the next game!
We sat on the top bleacher, which was great because we got more air, we got to people watch from above and we could worry the whole time about Ithan falling headfirst down the cement bleachers... ;)  It was HOT, though... enough to leave sweaty prints where we were sitting!
Tory was there, hanging out in her cute li'l duds!
Eric was so impressed by everything that he spent most of the time sleeping... or eating.
These two clowns were fun -- a father/son combination, it looked like.  The kids really enjoyed watching them and trying to get them to throw candy our way!  All was good fun until the big guy got hung up trying to clamber over the fence... :)
The crowd looking on... probably as each bull rider lasted only a second or two.  :(
We stayed until 9:30, I think... and in the whole time, there was only one rider who stayed on long enough to have a qualifying time!
We watched these horses dance for... well, for a really long time!
Some were really good... like machines, actually.  It made me think of Miracle of the White Stallions (a movie about the famous Lipizzan horses of the Spanish riding school in Vienna, Austria)... even though there was no comparison talent-wise!!!

All in all, it was certainly not the best rodeo I've ever attended -- and it would have been nice for the kids to see some other events than just bull-riding (Ms. Candi was NOT a fan).  However, I'm glad we had the experience... even with sweaty bums!  :)

Oh and I thought you were wanting us to fill in that the picture of the bull was a unicorn : )

A unicorn?! I need a second glance apparently.
